THE HUMAN STORY–The Role of Art, Music and Philosophy in Western Culture from the 18th to the 20th Century

All Day, Feb 20, 2020

Kevin Costello
Aristotle placed poetic truth above a simple chronology of historical thought and events; because to truly understand the spirit of a people, one must examine the humanities in its largest sense. Such investigations do more than deepen our understanding of past human behavior, they also increase our awareness of the present–and that is the objective of this course. A compelling array of composers, philosophers/writers, artists and architects will be explored, such as, Francois Boucher, Mozart, Jonathan Swift, Thomas Jefferson, William Turner, Georges Bizet, John Keats, Louis Sullivan, Constantin Brancusi, Pablo Picasso, Maurice Ravel, Sigmund Freud, Richard Serra, Philip Glass and Bob Dylan.

Cost: $75 – $85
